The BUSY School Wallsend

We are partnering with The BUSY Group UK to offer an alternative learning experience in Wallsend

Developed in Australia, The BUSY School is a highly successful approach providing individual support to students who might otherwise be struggling in the traditional school environment.

The BUSY Group are now partnering in the UK with Wallsend Boys Club, building on its remarkable community and sporting heritage in order to transform young people’s lives and build futures through education as well as sport.

The BUSY School Wallsend will provide an equitable approach to young people’s learning in the North East through:

Dedicated mentoring support to school age pupils who have disengaged from education and to their carers or families.

Alternative provision at The BUSY school Wallsend for learners at key stage 4 who are struggling to achieve in mainstream education.

Mentoring

We will provide dedicated mentoring support to both school age pupils who have disengaged from education, carers or families. The mentoring support is designed to be delivered initially alongside a trusted adult and is wholly focused on the young person and their needs.

The support is designed to progress through three phases:

  • Phase 1 focuses on establishing trust and on developing a detailed picture of school and family life.
  • Phase 2 is designed to help the young person to feel safe and able to engage, safely introducing the concept of returning to structure in a learning and/or working environment.
  • Phase 3 empowers the young person to thrive in a supportive learning environment.

Alternative Provision

The BUSY School Wallsend will build on the Wallsend Boys Club’s sporting heritage, expertise and resources to provide flexible and bespoke support for learners at key stage 4 who are struggling to cope or achieve in mainstream education.

The emphasis of our approach is on preventing young people slipping into the NEET category (Not in Employment Education and Training). Driven by a focused vocational approach, we will ensure that each student is supported to identify a future path.

Our flexible and inclusive environment, founded upon supportiveness and respect, will use a blend of trauma-informed approaches and will offer:

  • Smaller classroom sizes than a typical school
  • Multipurpose spaces that offer a mixed program of practical vocational education and training
  • Recreational facilities for fitness, wellbeing, team building and fun
